is holding a fieldcraft theory workshop at the University of Glamorgan on 26th February, 2012. Learn from one of the best fieldcraft experts in the business in this fun, educational and inspirational workshop. You’ve seen Andy’s multi award winning images over the years, well most are achieved using his fieldcraft experience and sneakiness at getting closer to wildlife. As an added bonus there is an anonymous competition for the best image to a set theme, with the best 10 images being critiqued on screen. A great opportunity for anyone interested in getting better wildlife pictures.

TO BOOK GO TO THE ANDY ROUSE WEBSITE here

Fieldcraft Workshop @ BWC

Wildlife photography is becoming more popular by the day with more and more amateur photographers wanting to become connected with the natural world. I can see why as wildlife photography can be very relaxing and generates a wonderful appreciation of the world around us. The problem with wildlife photography is that it can be very difficult and confusing to know where to start, where to go and what to do. This is the goal of this workshop, to give the beginner a headstart with the basics that you need to know to get started and get wildlife images that you will be proud of.

The key to great wildlife photograph is fieldcraft. You can have all the latest gear, but without good fieldcraft your images will not not do it justice. During this workshop you will learn about where to look for wildlife, how to approach it by using fieldcraft, using hides and camouflage and how to get the best results from your camera. All of these will be illustrated throughout with my images and I will base everything on many case studies showing how I approached each subject. For example I will show how I stalk deer, how I set up hides for garden birds and how to use a car as a hide. We will look at ethics too which is usually overlooked but very important to me. This will not be a technical day so please do not expect to be taught Photoshop or exposure in depth. So as you can see the theoretical part of this workshop will concentrate on the fieldcraft elements of wildlife photography that are sadly often overlooked these days.
The theory part of the workshop will last until approximately 1 pm, depending on questions, then a snack lunch will be served.

During the afternoon your attention will turn to the practical side of photography at the British Wildlife Centre. You will have the opportunity to get some shots of foxes, otters, red squirrels and scottish wildcats. You will be split into three groups and under supervision of a keeper will spend 30-40 minutes on each species. Andy will be around at all times to help you make the most of these opportunities and to help you with your camera. This is a great way of improving your photography.

The workshop will finish at approximately 5 pm.

The Cost

The cost is £99 + VAT per delegate and the workshop will have a maximum of 30 participants, ensuring that you get personal attention. This price includes tea / coffee on arrival and a lunch of sandwiches, soup, crisps and sausage rolls, plus the services of Andy Rouse and the British Wildlife Centre. When you book your place you will receive an email confirmation together with full instructions for the day including what gear to bring. You must bring this confirmation with you on the day.

Focus on Imaging 2012

FOCUS ON IMAGING is Europe’s biggest annual imaging show, covering all your needs from image capture through to output and beyond. IJ for our new website and blog. It really is a big asset. No excuses now for saying " I did not know"

The summer programme is now in place and the winter one almost complete. We have some great speakers and events lined up so we should be in for a great 2011/2012 season. Remember the club needs your images so do enter into the comps and bring them along to the critiques. We have done extremely well in External Competitions and Salons In the past. We have some great new togs so hopefully we can build on the success. So make the most of the Spring & Summer ahead and get those shutters clicking!

Again many thanks to all who help to make the Club so successful .

Looking forward to seeing you all at some of our summer events

Kind regards

Roy Packer
Chairman

Photos from Welsh Salon

 The Welsh Salon of Photography

The 2011 Welsh Salon of Photography Exhibition is now on at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, Church Road, Blaenavon, NP4 9AS.
